About Us
Our Story
For two decades, Health Access Network Ghana has been at the forefront of improving healthcare access — one policy, one partnership, and one community at a time.
Where It Started
In 2005, a group of health professionals in Ghana recognized a fundamental problem: despite progress in healthcare infrastructure, access to quality medicines and pharmaceutical services remained deeply unequal. Communities outside major urban centers struggled with medicine availability, affordability, and the absence of trained pharmaceutical professionals.
From that recognition, the Health Access Network (HAN) was born — a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting health in Ghana by improving access to quality healthcare in a sustainable manner.
What set HAN apart from the beginning was its foundation: a network of practitioners living in Ghana with deep expertise in health systems policy, pharmaceutical regulation, research and management, financial sustainability frameworks, public health commodity supply chain management, and access to medicines initiatives.
Our Mission
To promote health in Ghana by improving access to quality healthcare in a sustainable manner.
We work at the intersection of policy, practice, and people — strengthening the pharmaceutical sector through evidence-based research, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and institutional collaboration.
What We Do
HAN's work spans the full spectrum of pharmaceutical sector strengthening. We conduct supply chain assessments, develop policy frameworks, and deliver capacity-building programs that directly impact how medicines reach the people who need them.
We developed the Pharmacy Council approved guidelines for community pharmacy practice, created an Access to Medicines Training Manual for civil society organizations, and built Continuing Professional Development programs accredited by the Ghana Pharmacy Council for pharmacists nationwide.
In collaboration with the Ghana College of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Council, we developed an Advanced Practice Programme in Medication Therapy Management (MTM)— a first-of-its-kind initiative to elevate clinical pharmacy practice in Ghana.
Our research and assessment work for the USAID Global Health Supply Chain program has addressed critical gaps in maternal and newborn health commodities, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, newborn respiratory devices, and drug revolving fund mechanisms across Ghana's public health sector.
